This is one of our most frequently asked questions. Consumers wonder if we are a legitimate business because our service sounds too good to be true. We buy your unwanted gift cards for cash and sell gift cards for a discount; so many people are thinking, “What’s the catch?” Well, no catch! • Go Green & Be Frugal!

In honor of Earth Day, we’re dedicating this post to ways you can be frugal and green! Many Americans have the misconception that it’s impossible to protect the planet and save money. Educating consumers on ways they can help preserve our environment without breaking the bank is extremely important. To help, we’ve compiled a list of a few quick and simple ways consumers can save money and help the environment at home.

The first step when going green and being frugal is to examine your energy consumption. Learn how to be energy efficient set your thermometer to a timer so that it’s not running during the day when no one is home, seal cracks and leaks in windows, purchase energy efficient appliances, and turn off anything and everything that can be turned off. Being energy efficient means saving money on utility bills, replacing lights, and other appliance replacement costs.

The second step is to learn how to eat efficiently. Consider starting your own organic garden at home. The average person saves $500 a year from growing their own vegetable garden. Also, eat more vegetables and less meat. They’re cheaper (especially if you grow your own), healthier, and decreases the demand for environmentally unsound industry. As a consumer, you create the demand. The more efficiently you eat, the better messages you send to businesses.

The last step is to learn how to use your natural resources. On a beautiful day, open your windows and let the sunshine in to heat/cool your home. The natural light is beautiful and an inexpensive way to adjust the temperature of your home. Also, hang your clothes out to dry instead of using the dryer. It may take a bit longer, but you can save you bundles on your energy bill. Lastly, set up a water reservoir to irrigate into your organic garden. They are simple to install and can help save hundreds a year in water costs.

Consumers aren’t the only ones concerned about being environmentally friendly; many companies are making the switch and helping shoppers save money. Large corporations such as Wal-Mart promote green business practices that are directly translated into savings for the consumer. For example, Wal-Mart now offers organic lettuce at the same price as regular lettuce when you buy in bulk. They offer this discount when buying in bulk because they’re able to fully load their trucks and cut down on transportation costs. Pretty smart, right?!

Another example of a company “going green” is waste management. Did you know that recycling creates six times as many jobs as landfilling! Many waste management companies are transforming themselves from a primarily landfill operation to a residential recycler. These companies are finding a new ways to profit from trash, but in a more environmentally friendly manner.  This fact goes to show you that “going green” not only promotes a more sustainable environment, but also stimulates our economy through the creation of more jobs!

Promoting environmentally sustainable practices does not necessarily have to be heavy on your wallet. There are multiple ways you can “go green” and be frugal. Some energy efficient appliances and cars may cost you more upfront, but their overall energy and fuel savings practically pay those extra costs for you. Before beginning any new practices, it’s important to educate yourself on the topic and any possible outcomes. The moral of the story is always consider how your actions may negatively affect the environment before you take them. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and most importantly be frugal!

  • SnipSnap Mobile Couponing App: Couponing for the Hectic Lifestyle

Are you trying to live a frugal lifestyle, but find that clipping coupons is not worth all the trouble? The task is not only time-consuming, but extremely frustrating. Just to clip and organize the dozens of coupons you have to dedicate an entire afternoon to the task. If you’re like me, that’s the absolute last thing you want to do after working an 80 hour week. Thanks to the mobile couponing app, SnipSnap, you no longer have to worry about that! SnipSnap allows consumers to scan, save, and redeem printed coupons on their mobile phones! I don’t know why I didn’t think of this idea before?! SnipSnap Spokesperson, Elizabeth Licorish, explains her experience using the app and why she loves to SnipSnap:

“I pride myself on my organization skills, resourcefulness, and patience. I’m happy to live below my means and I hate spending money, even when I have the cash. I take joy in simple pleasures; I’d rather go for a long meditative run or sip an inexpensive bottle of wine with friends than spend a fortune at the mall or the movie theater on a Friday night. So I’d always been frustrated with my inability to extreme coupon like the super women I’d see on TV. I could never justify the time it took to clip coupons with my hectic lifestyle. Plus, even when I managed to set aside coupons, more often than not, I’d forget them on my kitchen table whenever I’d go shopping.

All this changed when I figured out my iPhone could do all the extreme couponing for me. When I found SnipSnap in the app store, it was love at first download, because, finally, my coupons were forget-proof. SnipSnap is the first mobile couponing app to completely mobilize printed store coupons. All shoppers have to do is take pictures of their print coupons and SnipSnap does the rest, creating digitized bar codes that scan right from your smart phone screen and compiling all other important information like expiration dates and promo codes so your coupons are always at your fingertips. SnipSnap also reminds you when your coupons are about to expire and when you’re near a store for which you’ve snipped a few deals. Not only is it impossible to forget your coupons at home with SnipSnap; it’s also impossible to forget to use them. Best of all, SnipSnap is social, so even if I haven’t snapped any coupons myself, I can search and snip all the thousands of coupons other users are uploading to the SnipSnap database every second.

As soon as I started using SnipSnap, the savings began piling up. I figured out pretty quickly that I’ll never have to pay full price while eating out again; with SnipSnap coupons, I save $5-$15 every time I go out to eat. I regularly save 10-50% shopping for clothes at the mall and I’ve even scored lots of freebies, from cosmetics to cat food.

The more I started to save with SnipSnap, the more I sought out easy, unconventional ways to save more money. I discovered apps like Ibotta, which allows you to earn money back for your grocery purchases, simply by scanning your receipts into the app. I shopkick to earn incentive rewards, just for walking into my favorite stores, and I love exchanging free mobile gift cards to stores like H&M and Victoria’s secret with the Wrapp app.

When I discovered Gift Card Rescue, I honestly couldn’t believe I hadn’t been exchanging store gift cards all along. The business model is a complete win-win situation; over the years, I’ve received so many gift cards to stores I absolutely never shop at. Unfortunately, they’d get lost or expire (just like my old, print coupons) and that was a total lose-lose situation. Knowing I can trade my unwanted gift cards for cash is knowing I’ll never waste a good gift ever again. Better yet? Being able to buy discounted gift cards to stores I love and shop at all the time means automatic savings every time I hit the sales racks. If I shop with a Gift Card Rescue gift card and a SnipSnapped store coupon, I’m instantly stacking my savings with almost zero effort. Now, I can’t imagine shopping any other way!”
